Lightning kills two in Rajshahi, Patuakhali

Two men were killed by lightning strikes in separate incidents in two districts - Rajshahi and Patuakhali.

RAJSHAHI: A farmer was killed by lightning strike in Arani Village under Bagha Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Manik Hossain Mondal, 45, son of late Abdur Razzaque, a resident of Hamidkura Village in the upazila.

Abdul Awal, former councillor of Ward No. 3 Hamidkura under Arani Municipality, said that Manik was struck by lightning while he was sowing maize seeds in his field during storm at around 1:30 pm, which left him critically injured.

Manik was then rescued, but died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, the former councillor added.

MIRZAGANJ, PATUAKHALI: A farmer was killed after being struck by a thunderstorm while cutting grass in Mirzaganj Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The incident took place in Subidkhali Village under Deuli Subidkhali Union of the upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Halim Hawlader, 62, a resident of the same village.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirzaganj Police Station Md Shamim Hawlader said that a sudden thunderstorm struck the area while Halim was cutting grass for his cattle in the field at noon, which left him seriously injured.

Locals then rescued him and took to Mirzaganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
