JAMALPUR, Apr 18: Police on Thursday arrested a man for killing his mother in Sadar Upazila of the district.
The arrested man is Manjurul Islam Manju, 40, the eldest son of the deceased.
He was apprehended early Thursday from Char Naovanga area of Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh District.
The deceased's younger son Jibon filed a murder case with Jamalpur Sadar Police Station (PS) on Wednesday. Following this, police launched operations in Jamalpur and various other districts to arrest the accused.
Confirming the matter, Jamalpur Sadar PS Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Faisal said that Manju stabbed his mother Manjila Begum Jira to death on Tuesday morning at their residence in Chandra area of Sadar Upazila.
Earlier, the deceased sold three trees from their home to Farid Mondal, a tree trader from Kompopur area, for Tk 16,000 to raise money for her eye treatment and received an advance of Tk 9,000.
On Tuesday morning, when Farid Mondal and his workers arrived to cut the trees, the elder son Manju obstructed them which led to an argument between the mother and son.
Manju, at one stage, stabbed Farid, leaving him injured.
When his mother tried to stop him, Manju also stabbed her.
Later on, Manju fled the scene and the locals found her mother dead, the OC added.
