One man was killed and eight others were injured in a clash that erupted after a meeting regarding cow grazing on land in Khagrachhari’s Ramgarh upazila.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM at Ward No. 6 Taichala Para in the upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as M Abul Kalam, 50, a resident of the same area.
According to locals, a meeting was held around 8:30 PM at the area concerning an incident where a cow belonging to Saddam, a resident of the same area, grazed on the land of Mortuza Ali.
The issue was reportedly resolved during the meeting.
However, a heated exchange of words between both sides escalated into a scuffle after the meeting.
Subsequently, the use of local arms led to casualties.
Later, locals rescued the injured and took them to Ramgarh Health Complex in critical condition.
Additionally, they were transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where Abul Kalam died undergoing treatment.
Confirming the matter, Ramgarh Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Mainuddin said that eight people were injured in the clash and three of them were sent to Chattogram where one of them died in the early hours of Friday.
Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident, the OC added.
