Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, the Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh and a runner-up candidate in the Barishal City Corporation election, has filed a lawsuit demanding that the election results be annulled and he be declared the rightful winner.

The petition was submitted on Thursday to the Election Tribunal of the Barishal City Corporation.
According to Sheikh Abdullah Nasir, the legal counsel for Mufti Faizul Karim, the case has been accepted by Md. Hasibul Hasan, the Senior Assistant Judge of Barishal Sadar and the official in charge of the Election Tribunal. However, no order has been issued yet.

The main respondent in the case is Awami League-nominated candidate Abul Khair Abdullah Khokon Serniabat, who was declared the winner of the June 12, 2023 election.

Other respondents named in the case include:
Mizanur Rahman Bacchu (Zaker Party candidate)
Ali Hossain Howlader (Independent candidate)
Asaduzzaman (Independent candidate)
Iqbal Hossain Taposh (Jatiya Party candidate)
Kamrul Ahsan (Independent candidate)

Mufti Faizul Karim is contesting the legitimacy of the election outcome, alleging irregularities that, if proven, could change the official result. The case is now pending further legal proceedings.
