Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Dr Ali Riaz, has said that the commission is working collaboratively to provide democracy in Bangladesh with a firm and lasting foundation.
He made the remarks at the start of the first day of formal discussions between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the National Consensus Commission, held at the LD Hall of the Parliament House.
The meeting was also attended by commission members Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Emdadul Hoque, and Badiul Alam Majumder, along with Monir Haider, the special assistant (consensus building) to the chief adviser of the interim government.
Expressing optimism about shaping the country’s democratic future, Dr Riaz said, “We want to create an institutional and constitutional environment through dialogue that will lead to a roadmap for Bangladesh's future.”
He added, “While we may be sitting on opposite sides of the negotiation table, we are not on opposing sides. We are working together to build a permanent and stable democratic foundation—something that has been a long-cherished goal of the nation.”
