Police recovered the body of an battery-run-auto rickshaw driver from Gucchagram water canal at Raozan upazila in Chattogram on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Jafar, 35, son of M Ibrahim, a resident of Khanpara village in the upazila.

According to police, Jafar took a passenger in his auto-rickshaw from Chowmuhani Bazar on Wednesday night and did not return home. He had been missing since then.
Later, his family members started searching him on Thursday morning but failed. Locals, at one point, spotted Jafar's body floating on the water of the water canal at noon and informed police.

Being informed, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination, said Raozan-Rangunia Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Muhammad Nurul Amin.

Police found an injury mark in one side of his head with blood.

The reason behind the incident could not be known yet, the police official said.

Details could be ascertained after getting the post-mortem report, he added.
