Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is set to visit Dhaka for an official two-day trip starting on April 27.
The Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh, Md Jashim Uddin, confirmed this during a briefing at the foreign ministry today. The visit was finalized during the Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) – a bilateral meeting at the foreign secretary level between Bangladesh and Pakistan held in Dhaka earlier.
The Foreign Secretary revealed that the dates for Dar’s visit were finalized during the meeting and that he will be in Dhaka from April 27 to 28.
When asked about the possibility of any memorandums of understanding (MoUs) being signed during the visit, Uddin mentioned that several MoUs were under discussion between the two countries. To facilitate this, a working group has been formed with officials from both the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry and the Pakistan High Commission. The aim is to finalize these agreements by consulting the relevant ministries.
Regarding the possibility of a visit to Pakistan by Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Foreign Secretary said the focus at present is on the upcoming visit of the Pakistani Foreign Minister.
The last visit by a Pakistani Foreign Minister to Dhaka was in 2012, when Hina Rabbani Khar visited Bangladesh.
