Four ‘commit suicide’ in four districts

Four people including a young woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in four districts - Rajshahi, Gopalganj, Sirajganj and Patuakhali.

BAGHA, RAJSHAHI: A newlywed young woman committed suicide by hanging herself in Bagha Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Jotraghar Kabarstan area of the upazila at around 5 pm.
The deceased was identified as Brishty Khatun, 23, wife of Abdul Latif, a resident of the same area.
According to locals, Brishty got married with Abdul Latif, who used to work at a company in Dhaka, 11 days back. Latif went to his workplace eight days after the marriage.

Later on, locals found the body of Brishty hanging from the ceiling of her room on Wednesday afternoon and informed police.
Being informed, police recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagha Police Station (PS) AFM Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident, saying that the reason behind her committing suicide could not be known immediately.

GOPALGANJ: An elderly man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Tungipara Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Boro Dumuria Village under Dumuria Union of the upazila.

Deceased Nirodh Hazra, 80, was a resident of the area.

Quoting locals and the deceased's family members, Tungipara PS OC Khorshed Alam said that Nirodh Hazra had been suffering from various diseases including respiratory problems for long.

He could not be able to receive treatment due to his extreme financial crisis. On Tuesday night, he went to sleep at a room in the house after having dinner. At around 5 am on Wednesday, neighbours spotted his body hanging from the ceiling of that room and informed the police.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.

SIRAJGANJ: An engineer reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Raiganj Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place at his residence in Chandaikona area of the upazila at around 2:30 pm.

Deceased Chinmay Sarker, 28, was the son of Dr Chandan Kumar Sarker of the area.

It was known that Chinmay Sarker hanged himself from the ceiling of a room in the house at noon.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Police assumed that Chinmay Sarker might have committed suicide over his love affair.

Raiganj PS OC Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this connection.

MIRZAGANJ, PATUAKHALI: A young man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Mirzaganj Upazila of the district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Maruf Sarker, 22, son of Abbas Sarker, a resident of Amragachi Village in the upazila.
According to locals, Maruf was in his room alone while other members including his wife remain busy with household chores.

Ashik Sarker, younger brother of Maruf, found Maruf's room locked from inside and called him repeatedly. Getting no response from him, he entered the room after breaking open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the family members as they had no complaint in this regard.

Mirzaganj PS OC Nurul Islam confirmed the incident.
