12 shops burnt at Monohardi

MONOHARDI, NARSINGDI, Apr 17: At least 12 shops were gutted by fire in Monohardi Upazila of the district early Thursday.

The incident took place at Moulvi Bazar under Chandanbari Union of the upazila at around 3 am.

Local sources said that the fire began at a shop in the market and soon spread to the adjacent shops.

On information, two units of Monohardi Fire Service rushed there and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic effort. The affected traders claimed that goods worth about Tk 1 crore were completely destroyed due to the fire.

Monohardi Fire Service Station Officer Monir Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that the fire might have originated from electric short circuit.
