Japanese Ambassador Saida Shinichi assured Japan’s commitment to stand by Bangladesh through diplomatic efforts to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
Japanese Ambassador made this remark during his visit to a health service center, directed by Dhaka Community Hospital Trust, at Rohingya camp at Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar.
During an exchange of views at the site, he noted that Japan has been providing humanitarian support to Rohingya people since the onset of the crisis.
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of healthcare for Rohingya refugees and praised the efforts of doctors and staff at the health service center in delivering vital services.
He also extended his appreciation to the Government and people of Bangladesh for sheltering over one million Rohingya refugees.
During the visit, Ambassador Shinichi interacted directly with Rohingya refugees, inquiring about their living conditions and well-being.
The visit was also attended by Shinju Karasawa, First Secretary and Head of Economic Cooperation at Japanese Embassy; Md. Golam Mostafa, Executive Director of Community Initiative Society; Executive Member Dr. Omar Sharif Ibn Hasan; Program Coordinators Hasi Chakma, Sadia Samad, Shahadat Hossain and Dr. Md. Nazmul among others.
According to Dhaka Community Hospital Trust sources, with support from the Japanese Embassy and Japan Platform, Dhaka Community Hospital Trust and Community Initiative Society have been operating the health service center since 2017.
The center provides emergency medical care, maternal and child health services, nutritional food packages and public health awareness campaigns for the Rohingya population.
To date, the center has served over 700,000 Rohingya and members of the local community.
