KHULNA, Apr 17: Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC)- Brihottor Khulna Unnyan Sangram Somonnoy Committee, on Wednesday staged a sit-in-demonstration in the city in protest to change gas supply route through pipe line from Barisal to Khulna via Bhola and to immediately supply gas through pipeline in Khulna.

Hundreds of leaders, activists of GKDACC joined the gathering in front of Khulna deputy commissioner's office premises in the morning with its President Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman in the chair.

Leaders and activists of different socio-cultural and political parties expressed their solidarity after participating in the event.

GKDACC leaders termed Khulna as neglected division during past decades. The previous government turned the industrial city Khulna into dark valley, closing government-non government mills-factories, especially state run jute mills.
Leaders said, tougher action will be taken if their demand is not met.

The leaders said investors did not show interest about Mongla Sea Port due to dilapidated roads communications; so an airport is a must to get a speedy Mongla Sea port.

"Without taking tougher action programme, our demand will not be met", they said, adding, the agitation will continue until their demand is not met, and two entry points of Khulna City will be closed if necessary.

Submitting a memorandum to the Government through Khulna deputy commissioner, GKDACC's President Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman said, a mass hunger strike programme will be taken if their demand is not met.

Among others, leaders of city unit BNP including its Convener Shafiqul Alam Mona, Member Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, Secretary General of GKDACC Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, city unit Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Mahfuzur Rahman, and Secretary advocate Zahangir Hossain Helal, Vice-President of GKDACC Principal Rehena Akter, spoke.
