BAGERHAT, Apr 17: The biennial council of Poura BNP in Morrelganj Upazila of the district was held on Wednesday, in which Shikdar Faridul Islam was elected president and Asaduzzaman Milon General Secretary (GS).
Amid huge enthusiasm, the council was organized in a democratic system. Starting by 11am, the council ended at 5pm. After a long gap of two eras, it was arranged on the premises of Acilaha Pilot High School.
Out of total 639 councillors of nine wards of the municipality, 596 ones voted by standing in lines.
As president candidate Shikdar Faridul Islam got 334 votes while his nearest candidate Principal Md Jahangir Al Azad got 259 votes. A total of 13 votes of the president's post were rejected.
As GS Asaduzzaman Milon got 513 votes against 75 votes of his nearest candidate Farhad Hossain Millon. A total of eight votes of the GS post were rejected. In the same system, Md Selim Molla has been elected organizing secretary.
The much expected council was attended by BNP's Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary Aninda Islam Amit as the chief guest while Assistant Organizing Secretary Jayanta Kumar Kundu were present as special guest.
