A court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife at Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj district.
The convict is Alam alias Nabin, 60, son of Adam Ali Nekram of Charhogla area under Siddhirganj.
On Thursday (April 17), Judge Md. Mominul Islam of Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 delivered the verdict.
Along with the sentence, he has also been fined Tk 10,000. In default of payment, he will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
Court police inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan said that the court sentenced one person to life imprisonment in a murder case filed with Siddhirganj Police Station. The accused was present in court when the verdict was announced.
Public Prosecutor Advocate Khandaker Azizul Haque Hantu stated that on October 2, 1999, the body of a woman named Afsana was recovered from Jalkuri area of Siddhirganj.
Later, the police filed a murder case with Siddhirganj police station.
After investigation, police charged her husband with the crime.
Upon completion of the trial, the court delivered its verdict.
