Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has confirmed that general elections in the country will be held between December 2025 and June 2026, in line with the commitment made by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting between a BNP delegation and the Chief Adviser at State Guest House Jamuna, Dr Nazrul said, “Whatever anyone says, the polls will not be held after June. They will be conducted within that timeframe.”

He added that BNP has expressed its preference for elections to be held by December 2025.
Highlighting the nature of the discussions, Dr Nazrul noted that the meeting was held in a cordial and sincere atmosphere, reflecting the BNP's genuine interest in electoral and political reforms.

Regarding the interim government’s election strategy, he said the official roadmap for the national polls would be announced two months prior to the scheduled date.

In response to a query about the legal proceedings against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina; who left for India on August 5—Dr Nazrul assured that her trial would proceed without delay.

Also present at the press briefing were Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretaries Apurba Jahangir and Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.

BNP delegation was led by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and included Standing Committee Members Jamiruddin Sirkar, Salahuddin Ahmed, Mirza Abbas, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Nazrul Islam Khan.
