Testimony in the case against cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi concluded on Wednesday.

Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman set April 28 as the date for the accused to give their statements in self-defense.

The case, filed by Tamima’s former husband Rakib Hasan, alleges that Nasir unlawfully enticed Tamima, who was still legally married to Rakib at the time, into marriage, constituting adultery and defamation.

The couple’s wedding photos surfaced on social media on February 14, 2021, prompting public controversy and legal action.

On Wednesday, the court concluded the testimony phase after the defense cross-examined the investigating officer, PBI Inspector Sheikh Mohammad Mizanur Rahman. A total of nine witnesses have testified.

The trial officially began on February 9, 2022, with the court framing charges against Nasir and Tamima. Nasir’s mother-in-law, Sumi Akter, was discharged from the case. Both parties later filed revision petitions, which were rejected on February 28, 2023, by the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court, allowing the trial to proceed.

Rakib and Tamima were married in 2011 and have an eight-year-old daughter. According to the complaint, Tamima, a cabin crew member, married Nasir while still in a valid marriage with Rakib, causing emotional distress and reputational harm to Rakib and their child.
