The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against three people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's niece and former British MP Rizwana Siddique alias Tulip Rizwana Siddique.
The other two accused are - former assistant legal adviser of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Shah Md Khasruzzaman, and former assistant legal adviser-1 Sardar Mosharraf Hossain, ACC's Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain said.
He said at a press briefing on Tuesday that they were sued on charges illegally taking advantage of an Eastern Housing Limited flat in the capital's Gulshan.
The ACC's Deputy Director Monirul Islam filed the case at the Dhaka Integrated District Office, he added.
According to the case statement, Tulip allegedly received the flat, located at B/201, House No 11A and 11B (previously, 5A and 5B), Road No 71, Gulshan-2, from Eastern Housing Limited as illegal remuneration.
The defendants, in collusion with each other, abused their power through criminal conspiracy, misconduct, and breach of trust and took the flat as an illegal gratuity without paying any money.
The statement also said that by violating the law and rules, Eastern Housing Limited was made the owner of the plot registered with RAJUK for 99 years, even though it was not transferable. Later, the plot was divided and 36 flats were approved for transfer. Tulip Siddiqui received illegal benefits from Eastern as an illegal reward in exchange for arranging for the transfer of the plot before 99 years.
A case has been filed against the accused under Sections 120B/409/161/162/163/164/165(a)/109 of the Penal Code as well as Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
The ACC official Akhter Hossain said that RAJUK's legal adviser Dr Md Selim (brother of former Home Minister Md Nasim) and Eastern Housing Limited Chairman Zahirul Islam were not named as defendants in the case as they had already died.
