Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar has called on the government to immediately withdraw what he termed as unreasonable decisions to increase the price of soybean oil by Tk 14 per litre and raise the gas price for new industries by 33 percent per unit.
He made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday (April 15).
In the statement, he said the government's decision to raise soybean oil prices at the consumer level by Tk 14 per litre and gas prices for new industries by 33 percent per unit is unjustified. As a result of this hike, the per-unit gas price for new industries will rise from Tk 30 to Tk 40, which he said has discouraged aspiring industrial entrepreneurs.
Jamaat leader said, "Following the political change on August 5, there has been a positive shift in the country's economy, instilling hope among industrial entrepreneurs. Under the previous government, due to a lack of an industry-friendly environment, new industries failed to emerge. Now, many are planning to establish new industrial ventures. In this context, the 33 percent hike in gas prices for new industries reflects the government's shortsightedness and will only discourage new investors."
