
Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year-1432, was celebrated in all districts including Gaibandha, Kishoreganj, Meherpur, Pabna, Panchagarh, Pirojpur and Tangail, in the country amid a festive mode and active participation of all walks of life on Monday.
GAIBANDHA: Marking the Day, district and seven upazila administrations, different educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations organized different programmes.
Till 9:30am, people from all walks of life including children and adults assembled at the park in the town. Then a Barshabaran Ananda Shobhajatra was brought out, with active participation of all. The rally ended at Independence Square after parading main roads and thoroughfares.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed led the function.
A greeting exchange meeting was held at the stage of Independence Square. It was addressed by DC Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed as the chief guest while Police Superintendent of Police (SP) Nishat Angella spoke as special guest.
Additional DC (General) Sharmin Sultana and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmud Al-Hasan spoke, among others.
DC Chowdhury Muazzam Ahmed said, the celebration of Pahela Baishakh has become integral part of Bangalis' culture and tradition and has been turned into a day of merriment. The Bangla New Year 1432 will bring continued peace, happiness and pleasures for all, she hoped.
The DC urged all to be serious and sincere to build a happy, prosperous, corruption and discrimination free beautiful Bangladesh.
A cultural function was held welcoming the Bangla New Year with the song- Eso Hey Baishakh Eso Eso, side by side with holding Baishakhi Mela on the premises of Independence Square.
Improved diets were distributed to the jail inmates and the children of Government Shishu Paribars in the district.
Traditional Halkhata was also held at the initiative of businessmen in haats and bazars, groceries, sales centres and important places in both rural and urban areas, distributing sweets among their customers.
District police adopted tight security measures to ensure law and order for peaceful celebration of the Day with the rich cultural heritage of the Bangalis, Additional SP Ibne Mizan said.
KISHOREGANJ: Marking the Day, a colourful procession was brought out from the Kishoreganj Old Stadium premises in the morning, which was led by DC Fouzia Khan.
Among others, SP Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, District BNP General Secretary Md Mazharul Islam, District Zamaat Amir Professor Ramzan Ali, District Jubadal's President Kasruzzaman Sharif were present.
District administration, different socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions participated in the procession.
The procession paraded main roads in the district town and ended at District Art Council auditorium. Later on, a discussion meeting held.
MEHERPUR: District administration organized various day-long programmes including a colourful joyous procession, discussion meetings, folk fairs and cultural events.
In the morning, a colourful joyous rally was brought out from the Shilpakala Academy premises. After parading main roads in the city, it ended at Shaheed Shamsujjoha Park. Officials of public and private organizations, representatives of various social and cultural organizations, teachers, students and people from various professions participated in the profession. It was led by DC Sifat Mehnaz as the chief guest.
DC Sifat Mehnaz said, "Pahela Baishakh is a Bengali tradition and a universal festival. It is deeply connected with our folk culture. Bangalis have been celebrating this festival for ages."
People of Meherpur celebrated the New Year spontaneously and in a joyful atmosphere, she added. Everyone must play a strong role in preserving this tradition. She thanked people of all cast, religions and races for participating in the joyful procession. She also expressed her determination to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
Additional DC Tariqul Islam presided over the programme. Among others, Additional SP Abdul Karim and officials of various government and private organizations, representatives of socio-cultural organizations, teachers and students, and people from all walks of life took part in the procession.
Traditional Bengali food was served in the district jail, hospitals, government children's homes and orphanages. Cultural events were organized with the participation of artistes from the Shilpakala Academy and its children.
In addition, all educational institutions in the district celebrated Pahela Baishakh in a festive atmosphere at their own arrangement. A day-long folk fair was also organized in the park.
Gangni and Mujibnagar upazilas also celebrated the Bangla New Year's programmes in a befitting manner.
PABNA: A joyous procession of Bangla New Year-1432 was brought out in the district with colourful arrangement at the initiative of the district administration.
With the theme of "New Year's harmony, end of fascism", various arrangements were made to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the Bangla New Year. Students and teachers of different government and non-government educational institutions, and male and female members of socio-cultural organizations participated in the joyous procession. The participants came in clad of colourful new clothes, carrying banners and face masks.
In the procession, everyone got up and danced to the rhythm of music, carrying palanquins, horse-drawn carriages, buffalo carts, and drums, embodying the traditions of rural Bangla.
The national anthem was played on the DC office premises at 8am in the presence of DC Mohammad Mofizul Islam. Then the joyous procession was brought out.
The procession starting from the DC's premises paraded main roads, passing through Shaheed Chattar, and it ended at the Municipal Town Hall, Bir Muktijoddha Rafiqul Islam Bakul Swadhinata Chattar.
Later on, a beautiful cultural programme was jointly performed by District Shilpakala Academy and local cultural organizations. At the same time, DC inaugurated a two-day Baisakhi Fair.
SP Md Murtaza Ali Khan, Special Assistant to BNP Chairperson Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, District BNP Member Secretary Masud Khandaker, District Jamaat-e-Nabi Ameer Iqbal Hosan and officials and employees of the district administration and police administration were present at that time.
PANCHAGARH: The first day of the Bangla New Year was celebrated in the district through colourful events.
A colourful procession starting from the District Collectorate premises in the morning paraded main roads in the town and ended on the Government Auditorium premises.
Then the festival and the day-long Baishakhi Fair were inaugurated by DC Md Sabet Ali by releasing colourful balloons. Later on, a discussion meeting and cultural event were organized.
Prizes were distributed among winners of various competitions. Earlier, rural Hadu...du..., stick fighting and cock fighting were organized.
The Baisakhi fair exhibited various traditions of rural Bengal at different stalls. Besides, local products including pitha-puli were displayed and sold.
Different educational institutions and cultural organizations including Udichi staged various events.
At noon, a Panta Bhat meal with various local dishes was organized at Mirgarh District Administration Eco Park.
SP Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi said, adequate security measures were taken to ensure all New Year's celebration peaceful.
Different local food items were served in prisons and hospitals.
Panchagarh District's BNP brought out colourful processions and held cultural events on this occasion.
Educational institutions in the district including Panchagarh Government Women's College and MR Government College celebrated the day through various events.
PIROJPUR: Bangla New Year-1432 was celebrated in the district in a colourful manner. A grand rally was brought out in the town. After parading main roads, the rally ended at Government Boys School playground in the town in the morning.
The festival was inaugurated along with a seven-day fair. DC Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.
SP Khan Mohammad Abu Naser and other district level officials were present, among others.
District administration, Pirojpur Science and Technology University, district police, District Shilpakala Academy and different academic institutions organized a day-long programme to mark the Day.
