Police recovered dead body of a college student from a septic tank at Kalihati upazila in Tangail district on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 2:00 PM at Satutia Dakshin Para area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Alim, 18, son of Saudi Arabia expatriate Johurul Islam, and a resident of Chantara village of neighboring Ghatail upazila. He was also a 12th-grade student at Kalihati Shahjahan Siraj College.
According to family sources, Alim left home to attend coaching classes on Saturday morning and had not returned since then.
Later, his family members looked for him everywhere, but could not find.
Meanwhile, Police and locals reported that residents of Satutia Dakshin Para noticed a body inside the septic tank of a toilet behind a house and promptly informed police.
Subsequently, police recovered the body from the scene with the assistance of the fire service.
According to police, the deceased had stab wounds on his abdomen and a plastic rope wrapped around his neck.
Confirming the matter, Kalihati Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan said that the body has been sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Efforts are underway to unravel the mystery behind the incident as quickly as possible, the OC added.
