There is no link of Meghna Alam incident with the removal of the DB chief, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday.
"DB chief Rezaul Karim's transfer is nothing but a routine procedure."
He made these remarks to reporters on Tuesday after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat.
When asked about the criticism surrounding the arrest of model Meghna Alam under the Special Powers Act, the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khuda Baksh said, "This law is indeed being used. It’s not that the law is inactive. Nor is this the only instance where it has been applied. It is not an unlawful act."
"But if you ask why or what happened in this particular case—a certain incident happened, a complaint came, work is going on about this. The matter has gone to the High Court. Once it goes to the High Court, it becomes a sub judice matter. It’s not right to talk about sub judice matters. Let’s see what’s in there," he added.
Model Meghna Alam, winner of Miss Earth Bangladesh-2020, was arrested from her residence in the capital. Two days later, she was sent to jail through a court order. The court subsequently approved a 30-day detention under the Special Powers Act.
