At least 20 slum houses were destroyed after a fire broke out early Tuesday at CRB Malipara slum under Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram.

The fire started around 5:30 am and was brought under control after an hour-long effort by five firefighting units.
Agrabad Fire Service senior station officer Khalilur Rahman confirmed it.

He said upon receiving the information, several fire service vehicles rushed to the scene, but firefighters faced significant difficulty reaching the core of the blaze due to the congested layout of the slum.

Most of the slum dwellers were asleep when the fire began, and as a result, they were unable to save any belongings from their homes, he added.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have originated from a gas cylinder. No casualties have been reported so far.
