ASP, executive magistrate held in July mass killing case

Additional Police Superintendent (Traffic) of Rangamati Anirban Chowdhury and Senior Assistant Commissioner (Executive Magistrate) of Narsingdi Md Saiful Islam have been arrested in a case over genocide and crimes against humanity during the July uprising in Narsingdi.

ICT Prosecutor (Administration) Gazi Monawar Hossain Tamim confirmed the matter on Monday in a text message sent to the media.

On Sunday, the police took Anirban from the office of the Rangamati SP into its custody for interrogation. He was shown arrested on Monday.

A member of the 30th BCS police cadre, Anirban joined Narsingdi police as an additional SP in 2022, and was working there during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in July and August last year.
On 7 October, he joined his new workplace in Rangamati and was serving there till his arrest.

On the other hand, Saiful is a 37th BCS (administration) cadre.
