Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) has temporarily expelled 37 students in connection with the recent clashes between university students and members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the university's syndicate held on Monday evening, April 14.

According to a press release issued by KUET’s Public Relations Office on Monday night, the 101st (emergency) syndicate meeting was convened at the university’s conference room. During the meeting, the sealed report from an investigation committee—formed after the 98th emergency syndicate meeting on February 19—was presented and formally accepted.

The report was based on incidents that occurred on February 18 and 19, which were described in the statement as unfortunate. Following a detailed review of the findings, the syndicate resolved to temporarily suspend 37 students who were found to be involved in the incident. In addition, the matter has been referred to the university’s Student Disciplinary Committee for further action based on the investigation’s recommendations.

The meeting also decided that academic activities at KUET will resume on May 4, while residential halls will reopen for students on May 2.

Despite the administrative decisions, a number of students demanding the immediate reopening of the dormitories are continuing their sit-in in front of the administrative building. As of now, the protesting students have not officially commented on the syndicate’s resolutions.
