Two assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) from Savar Model Police Station have been removed from duty due to negligence, officials confirmed on Monday.

The disciplinary action was taken against Abdus Sattar and Sarwar Hossain after they were found failing to perform their duties at a highway check-post, said Officer-in-Charge Jewel Mia of Savar Model Police Station.

According to Additional Superintendent of Dhaka District Police Shahinur Kabir, the check-post had been set up in the Bank Town area of the Dhaka-Aricha highway in response to rising incidents of bus and highway muggings.

However, the two officers were caught sitting idle and not checking any of the passing buses, despite clear instructions to carry out inspections.

Authorities said strict measures will continue to be taken against any law enforcement personnel who neglect their responsibilities, especially in high-risk areas.
