Dhaka University (DU) formed a five-member committee to investigate potential irregularities, corruption and nepotism in faculty recruitment spanning from 2009 to 2024, covering a 16-year period of academic recruitment practices.
Dr Tajmeri S A Islam, retired Chemistry professor and university syndicate member, will chair investigation examining misconduct allegations in teacher recruitment and promotions across nearly two decades.
Committee includes Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), and Dr Aka Firoz Ahmad, retired Public Administration professor who currently serves on university syndicate.
Current Dean of Law Faculty Dr Muhammad Ekramul Haque will be member, with Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed functioning as member secretary. Committee structure allows for addition of up to three supplementary members from inside or outside university if deemed necessary during investigation process.
Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed confirmed establishment of investigative panel, noting committee members had already begun work examining possible recruitment irregularities throughout 16-year timeframe under review.
