Gazi Group claim 3rd sport in DPL points table

Gazi Group Cricketers finished the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) group phase by claiming third spot after securing a 51-run win over Brothers Union at BKSP-4 ground on Sunday.

Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club ended the group phase as the top two teams. But with the deficit of just two points, Gazi Group are still the contender of the title for which they need to take upper-hand over those two teams in the Super Six phase.

Gulshan Cricket Club, Agrani Bank and Legends of Rupganj are the other three teams that confirmed the Super Six.
Riding on half-centuries from Shamsur Rahman and Salman Hossain Emon, Gazi Group posted a huge 301 before being all out in 50 overs.

Shamsur made team-high 84, playing 90 balls and hitting five fours and two sixes. Emon was unbeaten on 27 ball-51, his whirlwind innings contained three fours and as many sixes.

Brothers pacer Sumon Khan ended with 4-64 while Yeasin Arafat took 2-76.

However, despite a brilliant 122 from wicket-keeper batter Zahiduzzaman, Brothers were all out for 250 in 43.1 overs. Opener Mahfijul Islam was the other notable scorer with 55.

Wasi Siddique ripped through Brothers batting line up with 6-52.

At Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Agrani Bank thrashed Legends of Rupganj by 89 runs to finish fifth in the points table.

Put into bat first, Agrani Bank amassed 306-6 with opener Shadman Islam making 87, Imranuzzman hitting 50 and Amite Hasan hammering 59. Captain Marshal Ayub missed the half-century by two runs, scoring 48.

Robiul Haque then claimed 4-39 as Legends of Rupganj were bowled out for 217 in 40.1 overs. Mahmudul Hasan Joy made team-best 33.

Partex Sporting Club beat Dhanmondi Sports Club by two wickets in a thrilling contest in BKSP-3 but couldn't avoid relegation league.

Asked to bat first, Dhanmondi piled up 229 before being all out in 49 overs. Yasir Ali made 89 while Moin Khan played 80-run knock.

Captain Ahrar Amin struck an unbeaten 85 as Partex overhauled the target by reaching 234-8 in 48 overs.

Partex, along with Brothers and Shinepukur Cricket Club will play the relegation league after securing the last three spots in the points table.

Two bottom teams will be relegated to first division after the relegation league. �"BSS
