Bangladesh continues to make its mark in international women's football as five more female footballers had departed for Bhutan on Sunday to participate in the upcoming Bhutan Women's National Football League.
This move comes shortly after four other Bangladeshi players joined Bhutanese clubs earlier this month.
On Sunday morning, Masura Parvin, Rupna Chakma, Sanjida Akter, Maria Manda, and Shamsunnahar Jr. left Dhaka for Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.
Among them, Masura and Rupna will wear the jersey of Thimphu City FC, while Sanjida, Maria, and Shamsunnahar Jr. will play for Transport United. Forward Krishna Rani Sarkar had also signed with Transport United but was unable to make the trip due to pending work permit issues. Her participation now hinges on receiving clearance in the coming days.
Earlier, on the sixth of April, four other Bangladeshi players, including Sabina Khatun, Matsushima Sumaiya, Monika Chakma, and Rituparna Chakma, joined Paro FC to compete in the same league.
The Bhutan Women's National League is set to begin on 25 April and will run over a period of four months, showcasing talent from across the region and providing valuable international exposure for participating athletes.
This growing presence of Bangladeshi footballers in international leagues reflects the rising standard of women's football in the country and offers a promising platform for players to develop their skills on foreign soil.
