CA urges swift progress on reforms ahead of December polls

Chief Adviser and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Muhammad Yunus, emphasized on Saturday that the urgent need to accelerate reform initiatives to ensure the timely conduct of the national elections scheduled for December.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Vice-Chairman of the Commission, Professor Ali Riaz, and member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka this afternoon. Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for Consensus Building, Monir Haider, was also present.

During the meeting, Professor Riaz and Dr. Majumder updated the Chief Adviser on the Commission's progress. They noted that ongoing consultations with political parties are focused on the recommendations made by the interim government's various reform bodies.

So far, dialogues have been completed with eight political parties, and a meeting is planned with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday.

They also briefed the Chief Adviser on initiatives being undertaken to gather public opinion on the reform agenda and promote greater public awareness of the proposed changes.

Professor Yunus stressed the importance of continuing dialogue with all political stakeholders and advancing the reform process without delay, reiterating the Commission’s commitment to holding free, fair, and credible elections by the end of the year.
