20 injured as clash erupts in Jhenaidah over establishing supremacy

At least 20 people injured and shops along with some houses were vandalised as a violent clash erupted over establishing supremacy in the area at Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah ditrict on Friday morning.

The incident happened at Bishnupur village in the upazila.

Local said that there had been a long standing dispute between local Union Parishad (UP) member Kapil Biswas and supporters of Raich Uddin. Following this, this dispute escalated into a violent confrontation on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, the situation escalated further as both sides armed with homemade weapons engaged in another round of violence. At least 20 individuals were injured in the clash, and several houses and shops were vandalized.

Police arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control. The injured were rescued and taken to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex and Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Masum Khan, officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station confirmed the incident.
