DB detains former Miss Earth Bangladesh Meghna Alam

Meghna Alam, model and chairperson of the Miss Bangladesh Foundation, who was crowned Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020, has been taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) under the Special Powers Act.

According to DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman, she was picked up on Wednesday and placed under security custody for 30 days the following day. Authorities claim she is accused of involvement in a conspiracy to endanger state security, spread falsehoods about significant individuals to damage inter-state relations, and cause economic harm to the country.

Rahman clarified that reports of her abduction are false and stated that Meghna retains the right to seek legal assistance. As of Friday afternoon, no case had been formally filed against her.

On Thursday night, DB chief and Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick said Meghna had been taken in for interrogation. This was reaffirmed on Friday by Talebur Rahman, who confirmed that although no formal arrest has been made, Meghna remains in jail under a 30-day security custody order.
