BAUPHAL, PATUAKHALI, Apr 10: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two factions over establishing dominance in Bauphal Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Mominpur Bazar under Keshabpur Union of the upazila in the evening.
Among the injured, Kuddus Boiati, 55, and his brother Rezaul Boiati, 45, were admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
According to local sources, there was a longstanding dispute between the groups of Mustafa Akon and Kuddus Boiati over the lease of Mominpur Bazar.
On Wednesday evening, when Akon went to Mominpur Bazar, Kuddus became enraged. At one stage, Kuddus's group chased and forced Akon out of the market.
Following this, followers of Akon armed themselves and demonstrated at Mominpur Bazar. This led to a clash between the two factions, which left at least 10 people injured.
President of Keshabpur Union BNP Shahid Munshi said that Kuddus's group had been threatening to make Akon give up the lease. However, when Akon refused, Kuddus became furious, leading to the clash between the two factions.
Officer-in-Charge of Bauphal Police Station Kamal Hossain confirmed the incident, saying that legal action would be taken if any complaint is received.
