Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia authorities observed a complete shutdown program and human chain in protest of the Israeli genocide in Palestine on Wednesday.
The university observed a one-hour shut-down program starting at 12:00 PM.
At the same time, teachers, officials, and students of the university formed a human chain at the Diana Chattar on the campus.
IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah , Pro-vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali, treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam, registrar Professor Dr Manjurul Haque along with leaders and activists of various teacher and student organizations were present at the event.
VC Dr Nasrullah said, "Since 2023, the illegal state of Israel has carried out an unprecedented genocide, which is unmatched in world history. We strongly condemn this incident. Today, the general public and students are protesting against this genocide, but state leaders are not. We want to tell the Arab world that Israel is not just an enemy of Palestine—Israel is an enemy of humanity. We must unite and fight together to eliminate these enemies of humanity."
Earlier, in front of the faculty building of the university, nationalist teachers' organization Zia Parishad, Islamic ideology-based teachers' organization Green Forum, the University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB), and the Zia Parishad Officers' Unit jointly held a human chain protest.
