Former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU), Dr A A M S Arefin Siddique, was commemorated in a heartfelt memorial meeting.

The event, organised by the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism on Wednesday morning where Dr. Arefin Siddique served as a professor, attracted a large gathering of university officials, academics, former students and current undergraduates at the university's Professor Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium.

The current VC, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, led tributes to his predecessor, emphasising how Dr. Arefin Siddique had "captured the hearts of countless individuals" through his exceptional character and moral integrity.

Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan highlighted that Dr. Arefin Siddique's influence extended significantly beyond academic circles, noting his substantial contributions as both an administrator and mentor.

"Very few people can maintain such composure in the face of continuous mental stress. Professor Arefin Siddique did it with grace and determination," remarked Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, pointing to the late professor's remarkable ability to remain calm whilst navigating complex political and social challenges during his tenure as VC.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed attended alongside several distinguished guests, including the late professor's younger brother, Md. Atik Ullah Siddique. Professor Sakhawat Ali Khan, a long-standing colleague, shared personal memories of Dr. Arefin Siddique, as did numerous faculty members, alumni and students who recalled his intellect, kindness and steadfast dedication to education.

The memorial meeting not only remembered Dr. Arefin Siddique's academic accomplishments but also served as a poignant reminder of his core values--integrity, service and humility. Participants engaged in emotional recollections, reflecting on how one individual's life had positively shaped generations of students and colleagues throughout his career at DU.
