Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has launched a week-long protest schedule demanding an immediate cessation of Israeli military operations in Gaza and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The announcement, made jointly by central president Zahidul Islam and secretary general Nurul Islam Saddam on Monday, April 7, condemned the ongoing conflict that has claimed thousands of lives since October last year.
"The indiscriminate bombing and genocide in Gaza are heinous crimes against humanity," the leadership declared in their statement, urging widespread participation from students and citizens across all sectors of society.
The programme kicks off immediately with support for the "Global Strike for Gaza" on Monday, calling for a nationwide boycott of educational activities and the closure of government offices and courts throughout Bangladesh.
Further planned activities include protest rallies in major urban centres on Tuesday, followed by a "Solidarity With Palestine" demonstration on April 9 that will see Palestinian flags raised atop prominent buildings across the country.
