The convenor of Khulna District Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Mohammad Moniruzzaman Montu, stated that if the conspirators succeed, Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty could be jeopardized and democracy may be exiled.
He made these remarks as chief guest during inaugural speech at BNP council session for Ward 7, 8, and 9 of the Jalma Union under Batiaghata upazila on Friday morning (March 28).
The session was held at Chakrakhali Secondary School grounds, with Nurul Mumin Liton, leader of Jalma union BNP, presiding over the conference.
He also said that throughout history, conspirators and imperialists have cast their greedy eyes on our land. We had hoped that after August 5, a democratic government would be established through free and fair elections in a Bangladesh free from autocratic rule. However, already dark clouds are gathering on the political horizon of Bengal. In such a time, internal unity within the party is most crucial. Only a united BNP, alongside the people, can defeat the imperialists and conspirators.
Moniruzzaman further stated that the culture of electing leadership through direct voting at ward level is a distinctive feature of BNP; in the same way, establishing democracy in Bangladesh through the people’s direct vote is BNP's goal. For the past 17 years, struggling BNP leaders and activists have been striving to establish democracy at national level, and only then will they return home. Therefore, one must not seek personal loyalty but instead build oneself as an ideological worker loyal to BNP.
If BNP assumes the responsibility of state governance through people's vote, every worker will be valued; but if there is internal division leading to a loss of public support, no matter the position, it will be of no use. Hence, Montu urgently called for unity to thwart all conspiracies against the country and BNP.
Special guests who spoke at the event included district BNP joint convenors Khan Zulfikar Ali Zulu, Molla Khairul Islam and GM Kamruzzaman Tuku.
Others who spoke included district BNP member Mohammad Sultan Mahmud, leaders from Batiaghata upazila, Jalma union and ward-level leaders.
