A man and his granddaughter were killed in a train engine accident in Pabna's Ishwardi upazila on Thursday.
The accident took place in the evening in Baghail area under Pakshi union of the upazila.
The dead were Babul Sardar, 55, and Muntahar, 5, daughter of Ismail Hossain, residents of Char-Mirkamari area.
Eyewitnesses said that on Thursday evening, granddaughter Muntaha was walking on the railway line with grandfather Babul Sardar. In the evening, when a train engine trial from Ishwardi to Pakshi reached the place, Muntaha ran in front of the train engine. Grandfather Babul Sardar tried to save her but they were run over by the engine. They died on the spot.
GRP Ishwardi Police Station (OC) Ziaur Rahman confirmed it.
