Popular actor Afran Nisho stunned onlookers with a unique promotional stunt for his upcoming film Daagi. On Thursday afternoon, Nisho arrived at Gulshan Shooting Club dressed as a prisoner, complete with long hair, a full beard, prison attire marked with ‘786’, and handcuffs. He was escorted by two actors posing as police officers, arriving in a police van.
Set to release this Eid, Daagi marks Nisho's return to the silver screen after two years, following the success of his debut film Surongo. In Daagi, Nisho portrays a convicted criminal, further adding to the film’s storyline of redemption. At a press conference for the film, director Shihab Shaheen removed the handcuffs from Nisho’s hands, emphasizing the film’s central themes of love, repentance, and forgiveness.
Nisho spoke about the innovative promotional approach, drawing inspiration from foreign film marketing campaigns. "Audiences will see me as a ‘Daagi’ (marked criminal) on the big screen from Eid day," he said.
Director Shaheen described Daagi as a story of redemption, where the main characters, Nishan and Zerin, experience love, separation, and imprisonment. He emphasized the importance of forgiveness, a theme central to both the film and humanity.
The press event also featured actresses Tama Mirza, Sunerah Binte Kamal, actor Gazi Rakayet, and actress Monira Mithu, along with the film's producers, Shahriar Shakil of Alpha-I Managing Director and Redoan Rony of Chorki.
The film, shot in Syedpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka, features notable actors such as Shahiduzzaman Selim, Gazi Rakayet, and Mili Bashar. The film’s title track, sung by Afran Nisho, was released earlier this week.
In the competitive Eid film season, Daagi will compete with other major releases, including Shakib Khan's Borbaad and Antoratta, Siam Ahmed's Jongli, Mosharraf Karim's Chokkor 302, and Jinn-3 starring Sajal and Nusraat Faria.
Producers Shahriar Shakil and Redoan Rony expressed excitement about the variety of films available to audiences this Eid, with Daagi being screened in 150 theatres nationwide. They also confirmed that the official hall list for Daagi will be announced on ‘Chand Raat’, the night before Eid.
