Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam on Thursday alleged that 'someone associated with' the International Crimes Tribunal is leaking the information of arrest warrant issued by the tribunal against accused of crimes against humanity committed during the July-August student uprising.
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) also informed that formal trial of July-August killing cases would start after Eid-ul-Fitr as investigation reports of some cases including Chankharpul and Ashulia cases against the accused would be submitted before the tribunal very soon. Sheikh Hasina was involved as superior commander responsibility in all the cases.
He came up with the comments while talking with the reporters at the tribunal premises on Thursday afternoon.
"The arrest warrant is being leaked immediately after it is issued at the tribunal. Due to which 22 police officers have gone into hiding," Tajul said while replying to a question of a reporter.
He added, "It is unfortunate that it is being leaked from some place here (ICT). Someone associated with this tribunal may be involved in it. We are deeply analyzing the matter with concern and collecting information and evidence."
"If we find evidence that anyone from the prosecution office, any member of the prosecution team, or any officer or employee of the tribunal; whoever is involved in leaking such information, they will be brought under the law and face exemplary punishment," the chief prosecutor said.
Tajul said the tribunal has obtained necessary documents against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The process to file a formal complaint against her is now at final stage. Hopefully, the task will be completed after Eid.
Meanwhile the three-member tribunal on Thursday extended the deadline for submitting the investigation reports in the cases of burning the bodies of six people in Ashulia, Savar during the mass uprising till April 28.
