Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has started observing Itikaf at mosque in the capital from Ramadan 20, seeking closeness to Allah.
In Islam, Itikaf refers to a spiritual practice where a person secludes themselves in a mosque for a certain period, typically during the last ten days of Ramadan, to focus on worship, reflection and seeking closeness to Allah.
During the Maghrib prayer on Wednesday, he was seen greeting everyone and shaking hands. Then he went to the first row of the mosque. After completing the obligatory Maghrib prayer, he recited prayers and blessings.
Later, he offered Salam and Musafa with the worshippers and left for the place of Itikaf.
However, the sources did not disclose the mosque, where the Ameer has started observing the Itikaf, saying that he has been observing the Itikaf in the mosque he has been offering prayers since last ten years.
When introduced by the Daily Observer, he didn't want to talk as its not allowed to talk during Itikaf.
