The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has rechristened different roads, buildings, and structures previously named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and leaders of the Awami League.

Bangabandhu Avenue has been renamed as Shaheed Abrar Fahad Avenue, according to an office order issued by the DSCC on Tuesday.

DSCC Public Relations Officer Md Russel said, "The naming committee gave us a proposal, which was accepted at our board meeting. It was then forwarded to the Local Government Division. The renaming was finalised after the division approved it."

According to the DSCC order, Bir Muktijoddha Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Sarani has been renamed as Inner Ring Road, Bir Muktijoddha Lt Sheikh Jamal Sarani as Jhauchar Prodhan Sarak, and Bir Muktijoddha Advocate Qamrul Islam Sarani renamed as Kamrangirchar Loharpool Buriganga Sarak.

The parks named after Bangabandhu's youngest son Sheikh Russel at Kalabagan and Jatrabari have been changed into Kalabagan Shishu Park and Jatrabari Shishu Park from Shaheed Sheikh Russel Shishu Park.

Mayor Sheikh Taposh Setu has been renamed as Kamrangirchar Bridge, while the name of the Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon Social Programme Centre has been changed to Gendaria Social Programme Centre.

Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon Park will now be called Sarafatganj Park while Bir Muktijoddha Advocate Qamrul Islam Social Programme Centre has been titled Kamrangirchar Social Programme Centre.
