Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh's most prolific opener, is on a steady path to recovery after surviving a massive heart attack. If his condition continues to improve, he is expected to return home within the next 48 hours.

Doctors at Evercare Hospital delivered encouraging news on Thursday following a routine check-up. Professor Shahab Uddin Talukder, senior consultant of the cardiology department and medical board member Dr. Arif Mahmud confirmed Tamim's progress noting that he had been moved from the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) to a regular hospital bed.

"Tamim is doing very well. He is eating, drinking and speaking normally. His vitals are stable and we will keep him under observation for another day or two before he is discharged," Dr. Mahmud said.

Despite the positive medical updates, Tamim is struggling to come to terms with the severity of his condition. At just 36, the realization of suffering a heart attack has left him in shock.

"He cannot accept what happened. Many athletes have collapsed on the field and some have even lost their lives. He never imagined that this could happen to him," said the medical board chief.

To help him cope, Tamim is undergoing psychological counseling alongside his cardiac rehabilitation. "Mental adjustment is crucial. We have a psychologist working with him to address his fears and anxieties. He is asking questions, trying to process the reality and gradually learning to adapt," added Dr. Mahmud.

A five-member medical board headed by Professor Shahab Uddin is overseeing Tamim's recovery. Routine tests including an echocardiogram showed a slight reduction in heart movement but the overall prognosis remains positive.

"He will be able to lead a normal life but whether he can return to cricket will be assessed after 3-4 months of monitoring by the cardiac team and physiotherapists," Talukder stated.

Tamim's recovery will be closely monitored in the coming months. While his return to cricket remains uncertain, the immediate priority is ensuring his well-being.

His fans, teammates and the cricketing fraternity continue to rally behind him hoping to see the country's finest opener make a full recovery both physically and mentally.
