Deputy Commanding General of the US Army Pacific Lieutenant General Joel P Vowell has reiterated the United States' commitment to strengthening its ties with the Bangladesh Army, emphasising shared security interests and ongoing collaboration.
During his visit to Bangladesh on 24th-25th March, Vowell met with Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman to discuss key military challenges and potential areas for US support, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday.
He acknowledged the Bangladesh Army's significant role in maintaining domestic security while balancing other responsibilities, including disaster response.
The discussions also covered the upcoming Exercise TIGER LIGHTNING, scheduled for the summer of this year.
Vowell further explored the potential acquisition of US-origin military equipment to enhance interoperability and operational capabilities.
He commended the professionalism of the Bangladesh military and underscored the importance of strong, professional forces in ensuring regional stability, the statement added.
