The High Court has issued a rule asking why the declaration of Shafiq Rehman as the publisher and printer of the daily newspaper ‘Jai Jai Din’ should not be declared illegal.

The court also questioned the cancellation of Sayed Hossain Chowdhury's declaration as publisher and printer of the same newspaper.
3-day ultimatum given to restore 'Jai Jai Din' declaration

The high court bench of Justice Raziq Al Jalil and Justice Tamanna Rahman Khalidi issued the rule after reviewing arguments and documents from both sides following a writ petition filed by Sayed Hossain Chowdhury on March 24.

The court also directed the Dhaka District Commissioner and other respondents to respond to the rule.

On March 12, 2025, the government cancelled Chowdhury’s declaration following a complaint from journalist Shafik Rehman, who alleged violations in publishing the newspaper.

Just six days later, on March 18, the declaration was granted to Rehman instead.
