55th Independence Day Celebrated In Districts

Pledge to establish discrimination-free new BD

The 55th Independence and National Day was celebrated in all districts of the country on Wednesday with a pledge to establish fascism and anti-discrimination-free new Bangladesh with the spirit of the Liberation War.

On March 26 in 1971, Bangladesh was declared independent following the barbaric crackdown on unarmed and sleeping population of the country by the Pakistani occupation forces on March 25 night.

To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in districts including Barishal, Gazipur, Gopalganj, Joypurhat, Khulna, Kishoreganj, Meherpur, Narayanganj, Pirojpur, Rajbari, Rangamati and Sirajganj.

The national flag was hoisted atop all the public, private and autonomous buildings in the districts in the morning.
Besides, special prayers were also offered at different religious institutions, and improved diet was served to jails, hospitals and orphanages in the districts.

BARISHAL: On the occasion of the Day, Sachetan Nagarik Committee (SANAC) in Barishal organized different programmes in the district.

The Day's programme began with hoisting of the national flag atop the organization's office.
After that, members of SANAC, YES and ACG placed wreaths on the Liberation War Monument adjacent to the deputy commissioner's (DC) office in the city around 8 am.

GAZIPUR: National University (NU) organized different programmes marking the Day.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university placed a wreath on the National Memorial in Savar, Dhaka, at dawn, remembering the martyrs of the Liberation War.

NU Pro-VCs Professor Md Lutfar Rahman and Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr ATM Jafrul Azam, acting deans of various faculties, register, examination controllers, the heads of different departments, teachers, students and employees were also present there at that time.

Earlier, national flag was hoisted at Gazipur Campus of the university.

GOPALGANJ: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.
The national flag was hoisted atop all the public, private and autonomous buildings in the district town at dawn.
At around 6:30 am, wreaths were placed on the Mass Graveyard-71 adjacent to Sadar Upazila Parishad.

At around 9 am, the district administration formally hoisted the national flag on Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in the town.

At that time, national anthem was sung, and a march past participated by students of various educational institutions was also held.

Gopalganj DC Muhammad Qamruzzaman inaugurated the programmes.

Superintend of Police (SP) Md Mizanur Rahman, government officials, freedom fighters (FFs), family members of FFs, local elites and media workers, among others, were also present there.

Later on, a Milad Mahfil, discussion meeting and FF reception and Iftar distribution programme were arranged at Gopalganj Municipality auditorium in the town at around 10:30 am.

After Johr prayers, special Munajat was offered in all the mosques including Gopalganj Court Mosque and District Model Mosque in the town.

Besides, District Shishu Academy organized art competition for children on the occasion of the Day.
Meanwhile, documentary films on the Liberation War were screened at various places.

A friendly football match was arranged on Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in the town in the morning.
Similar programmes were also organized in every upazila of the district.

JOYPURHAT: In this connection, the district administration organized different programmes.
Joypurhat DC Afroza Akhter Chowdhury and SP Muhammad Abdul Wahab placed wreaths on the Central Liberation War Memorial at Shaheed Dr Abul Kashem Maidan in the town at dawn.

Later on, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Sarker Mohammad Raihan, Additional District Magistrate Mohaimena Sharmin, Additional DC (ADC) and Joypurhat Municipality Administrator Sabur Ali, ADC Bipul Kumar, ADC Tripti Kona Mandal, District BNP Convener Golzar Hossain, its Senior Joint Convener Masud Rana Pradhan, General Secretary (GS) of District Jamaat-e-Islami Golam Kibria Mandal, Town BNP GS Abu Raihan Ujjal Pradham, Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Mahmudul Hasan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rashedul Islam, and Assistant Commissioner of the district administration Jahangir Alam, among others, also paid floral tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War in phases.

In the morning, a grand march past participated by children was held on Joypurhat Circuit House ground, where DC Afroza Akhter Chowdhury took the salutes.


KHULNA: To mark the Day, Khulna District administration organized different programmes in the city.
The Day's programme began with heralding 31-gun salutes at dawn on the Khulna Metropolitan Police Line premises.
National flags were hoisted atop all the government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings and institutions, while the main roads and intersections of the city were decorated with national flags.

Various organizations and individuals paid their respects at the Gallamari Martyrdom Memorial here by placing floral wreaths.
Khulna City and District Muktijoddha Sangsad, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator and Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar, Khulna Range DIG of Police Md Rezaul Haque, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haider, DC Mohammad Saiful Islam, SP, Zilla Parishad administrator, Khulna Development Authority (KDA), Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party, Batiaghata Upazila administration, Lawyers' Association, various government offices, student representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Movements, various educational institutions, political leaders, professional organizations, and leaders of social, cultural and literary organizations also placed wreaths there at dawn.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar formally hoisted the national flag at the Khulna District Stadium.
A colourful march past was held by the different government organizations including Police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, Fire Service & Civil Defence, prison guards, and students from various educational institutions.

The Divisional Commissioner attended the event as the chief guest and received the parade salute.
KCC organized a drawing and essay competitions for children, a discussion session, and an award distribution ceremony at the Nagar Bhaban.

KCC Administrator Md Firoz Sarkar attended the event as the chief guest.
Presided over by KCC Chief Executive Officer Laskar Tajul Islam, the programme was also addressed, among others, by KCC Secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Acting Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan and Revenue Officer SKM Tasaduzzaman.

A reception was held at the Khulna District Shilpakala Academy auditorium to honour the FFs and families of the martyrs in the afternoon.

Organized by the district administration, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar addressed the event as the chief guest.

Khulna DC Mohammad Saiful Islam presided over the event while Khulna Range DIG of Police Md Rezaul Haque, KMP Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haider, SP TM Mosharraf Hossain, FF SM Babar Ali, and city and district units conveners of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Md Abu Zafar, addressed the programme as special guests.

On the occasion of the Day, Liberation War-related films and documentaries were screened in cinemas and open spaces.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Navy opened one of its ships for public viewing at the BIWTA Rocket Ghat.

Important government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings were illuminated with decorative lighting.
Various political parties including BNP, NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami, social and cultural organizations, and educational institutions organized programmes highlighting the significance of the Day.

Besides, different educational institutions including Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering Technology (KUET), Khulna Agriculture University (KAU), Khulna Press Club, Metropolitan Journalists Union, Mongla Port Authority, West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) organized various programmes marking the Independence Day.

KISHOREGANJ: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.
At 8 am, a colourful march past participated by students of different educational institutions was held at Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium in the district town.

Later on, a discussion meeting and FF reception programme was held in the hallroom of District Shilpakala Academy.
Kishoreganj DC Fouzia Khan presided over the meeting.

SP Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Mst Mostary Kadary, ADC (General) Mizaba Rahmat, Additional District Magistrate Jesmin Akter, and former commander of District Muktijoddha Sangsad Asad Ullah, among others, were also present at the programme.

MEHERPUR: Different programmes were organized in the district on the occasion of the Day.
The Day's programme began with heralding 31-gun salutes at dawn on Meherpur Circuit House premises.

Meherpur DC Sifat Mehnaz, and SP Maksuda Akter Khanom, PPM, placed wreaths on the Liberation War monument in the town.
Different political parties, socio-cultural organizations and juvenile groups also paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War there.

Later on, a grand march past comprising of police, Ansar and VDP, BNCC, rover, boys scout, girls in guide, students of different educational institutions and inmates of the public orphanage was held at local stadium in the town, where DC Sifat Mehnaj and SP Maksuda Akter Khanom, PPM, took the salutes.

A grand reception was accorded to the valiant FFs and a discussion meeting also held on this occasion at District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

Easy writing and drawing competition for children were also arranged.
Similar programmes were also organized in Gangni and Mujibnagar upazilas.

NARAYANGANJ: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.
Wreaths were placed on the Liberation War Monument at Chasara in the city.

The district administration, District Police, BNP, different socio-cultural organizations, and people from all walks of life paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War at that time.

Besides, special Munajat and Doa Mahfil was also arranged at various places in the district, seeking the prosperity of the nation.

PIROJPUR: In this connection, different programmes were organized in the district.
Wreaths were placed on the Liberation War monument in the district town.

District Police, District Muktijoddha Sangsad, government offices, BNP, CPB. Pirojpur Press Club, ADAB, Mohila Parishad, District Lawyers Association, various educational institutions, and different socio-cultural organizations also paid floral tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War there in phases.

Later on, a march past was held at District Stadium in the town.
Police, Ansar and students of various educational institutions took part in it, where DC Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan and SP Khan Mohammad Abu Naser took the salutes.

Besides, a reception was accorded to the FFs and prizes were distributed among the winners of different competitions in the district.

RAJBARI: The Day's programme began with placing wreaths on the Liberation War Monument in the district town at 12:01 am.
After heralding 31-gun salutes at dawn on Rajbari Police Lines, a march past participated by the students of various educational institutions was held on Rajbari Railway Football ground in the morning.

Rajbari DC Sulatana Akhter was present at the march past as the chief guest.
SP Shamima Parvin and ADC (General) Imrul Hasan, among others, also attended the programme.
In the afternoon, a reception was accorded to the FFs on the occasion of the Day.

RANGAMATI: To mark the Day, different programmes were organized in the district.
Wreaths were placed on the Martyrs' Monument in the district town in the morning.

Rangamati DC Mohammad Habib Ullah, FFs, Chattogram Hill Tracts Development Board Chairman Major General (retrd) Anup Chakma, Rangamati Zilla Parishad Chairman Agriculturalist Kajal Talukder, SP Dr Farhad Hossain, Executive Officer of Chattogram Hill Tracts Regional Council Subarna Chakma, and Chakma Raja Barrister Debashish Roy, among others, also paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War there in phases.

At around 9 am, the national flag was formally hoisted at Rangamati Chinghla Mong Mari Stadium Stadium in the town through singing national anthem.

After that, a student gathering and a march past were held there on the occasion of the Day.
