Bangladesh Red led by former national captain Akram Khan clinched a 27-run victory over Bangladesh Green in a special friendly cricket match held at Mirpur to celebrate Independence Day on Wednesday. Minhajul Abedin Nannu captained the Green team in the 10-over contest featuring former cricketers.
Batting first, Bangladesh Red posted a competitive total of 110 for three in their allotted 10 overs. Mehrab Hossain Opee led the charge with a blistering 35 off 20 balls smashing a four and three sixes.
Hannan Sarkar provided an explosive start hammering 25 off just 11 balls with five boundaries. Faisal Hossain Dickens added quick runs scoring 17 off seven balls, while Abdur Razzak and Dollar Mahmud remained unbeaten on 11 off 14 and 9 off four respectively.
For Bangladesh Green, Mohammad Rafiq, Hasibul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Babu claimed a wicket each but they couldn't contain the aggressive batting display of the Red team.
In response, Bangladesh Green struggled to keep up with the required rate and managed 83 for five in 10 overs. Talha Zubair fought hard with an unbeaten 29 off 12 balls striking three fours and two sixes. Rafiq contributed 25 off 17 but the team fell short of the target.
Abdur Razzak and Faisal Hossain Dickens were the standout bowlers for Bangladesh Red taking two wickets each to secure the win.
