A youth was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers' over owed money in Kishoreganj's Katiadi upazila on Tuesday night.
The incident took place at Kargaon area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Arab Ali, 35, son of Matiur Rahman, a resident of Konapara Pashchimhati village in the upazila.
According to locals, Alam borrowed Tk 10,000 from Hasan. There had been a dispute between Hasan and Alam as Alam failed pay the debt. An arbitration meeting was held in the area to settle the issue between them where Arab Ali was present on behalf of Alam and Faruk of Hasan.
An altercation was taken place between them during the arbitration meeting. They two groups, at one stage, swooped on each other with lethal weapons, leaving Arab Ali seriously on the spot.
Locals rescued Arab from the spot and took him to Nikli Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Being informed, a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College morgue for a post-mortem examination, said Katiadi Police Station officer-in-charge Tarikul Islam.
Police were looking into them matter, the OC said, adding that legal action would be taken against those found involved in the incident.
