An advocacy meeting was held with the support of Women’s Fund Asia to address the problems and solutions concerning hijra ccomunities and marginalized women.
The meeting took place on Tuesday afternoon at Rangpur District Social Services Complex auditorium, organized by the “Justice Rights Third Gender Development Organization.”
The event was chaired by hijra rights activist Shahid Hossain Shrabon, with speeches delivered by Abdul Matin, Deputy Director of Rangpur District Social Services Department; Dr. Akhtaruzzaman Shuvo, Medical Officer of Civil Surgeon’s Office; Shihab Uddin, Assistant Director of Family Planning Department; SM Mahshin, Assistant Youth Development Officer; Habiba Helen, Program Officer of Women’s Affairs Department; Yasin Ali, Chairman of Nobo Pravat Foundation, cultural worker Safura Begum, Advocate Priyanka Rahman, among others.
During the meeting, hijra, indigenous, Bihari, and rural women directly shared their experiences with government officials.
Representatives from various government departments, including Social Services, Family Planning, Youth Development, and other social organizations, were present at the meeting.
Everyone assured their commitment to improving the living standards of hijra and marginalized communities through training, healthcare, and inclusion in social security programs.
