Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) expressed its commitment to ensuring the implementation of a constituent assembly election, even though a movement if necessary, as articulated by Samanta Sharmin, senior joint convener of the party.
She made these remarks on Wednesday, March 25, at a Iftar gathering of NCP's Dhaka Metropolitan Wari Zone, held at Saeed Khokon Community Center on 114 Distillery Road in capital's Gandaria.
Samantha described the ongoing sit-in programme at Jamuna Bhaban as a legitimate political expression. “The next parliament will be a Constituent Assembly election, through which we aim to amend our constitution,” she explained, highlighting the party's democratic approach to political change.
She emphasised the party's intention to work within the existing state framework to address political system challenges. Samantha noted that if the constituent assembly election does not proceed through current institutional channels, the party is prepared to mobilise a peaceful movement to achieve its objectives.
Central to her address was a call for civic unity and constructive political engagement. She encouraged citizens to support the process of implementing the constituent assembly election, presenting it as a collaborative path towards potential constitutional developments.
Central NCP leaders present at the event included Nizam Uddin, Joint Member Secretary and S.M. Shahriar, Joint Organizer. The gathering underscored the party's continued commitment to democratic dialogue and constitutional processes in the country.
