Man killed, 20 injured in BNP factional clash in Ctg

A man was killed and 20 others injured in a factional clash between two groups of BNP over establishing supremacy at Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram on Wednesday.

The clash incident took place around 12:00 PM at Baroiyarhat Pouro Bazar area in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as M Jabed, 45, son of Jahangir, a resident of Nilgiri Residential area under Bayazid Bostami Police Station in the city.

According to locals, the clash ensued between the supporters of Uttar Jilla BNP Joint Convener Nurul Amin and Amin Prokash alias Kala Amin over announcing Mirsharai upazila unit BNP committee.

The two groups, at one stage, on Wednesday swooped on each other with lethal weapons, leaving Jabed dead and 20 others injured on the spot.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Chattogram Medical College Hosptial for treatment.

Being informed, a team of police rushed to the scene and brougth the situation under control, said Zorawargonj Police Station officer-in-charge Sabbir M Irfan.

Tension was prevailed in the area for the past few days over the formation of the committee. They ensued the clash violating Section 144, the OC added.
