The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, on Wednesday celebrated the Independence Day and National Day amid much enthusiasm.
The day started with hoisting the National flag by the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah and University flag by Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Yeaqub Ali in front of the administrative building. Followed by that, balloons were released as a symbol of joy with Treasurer Professor Dr Jahangir Alam and registrar Professor Dr Manjurul Haque present.
Later, a colorful procession was brought out with VC Dr Nasrullah, Pro VC Dr M Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Dr Jahangir Alam, registrar Dr Manjurul, student advisor Professor Obayedul Islam, proctor Professor Dr Shahinuzzaman, theology faculty dean Professor Dr ABM Siddiqur Rahman Asrafi, UTAB IU unit president Professor Dr Tozammel Hossain and faculties, students, officers present.
The rally paraded the main roads of the campus and concluded at the university Memorial Monument. There University authority, Teachers, Zia Parishad, Residential Halls, Anti-Discrimination Students Movement, unit Chhatro Dol, different departments, Islamic University Journalists’ Association and social-cultural organizations placed floral wreath in the remembrance of the nation’s brightest heroes.
After paying tribute, a one-minute silence is observed following the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha, followed by a prayer for the forgiveness of their souls.
Later, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman by placing a floral wreath at the foundation stone established by him. Various BNP alliance organisations of the university also placed tribute to the foundation stone. After Zuhr prayer, a special prayer and supplication were held at the university's central mosque for the forgiveness of the souls of the valiant martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great Liberation War.
